2026 Fall Semester Double Major Application

Article 35, Paragraph 2, Item 1 (Double Major) of the Korea University Academic Regulations and Chapter 6, Section 2, Subsection 1 (Double Major) of the Academic Affairs Regulations

 

1.    Eligibility

A. Students who have been assigned a first major

B. Students who have completed at least three semesters of enrollment (or at least two semesters in the case of transfer students)

C. Students enrolled as of the First Semester of Academic Year 2026

1)  Period of enrollment for the semester: March 1 – July 31

2) Students on a leave of absence are not eligible to apply and may take a leave of absence beginning in the Fall Semester 2026.

3) Students who take a leave of absence in the semester immediately following their application for a double major will be disqualified (or their admission will be canceled)

4) Students planning to participate in international exchange programs or study-abroad programs during the semester in which the double major begins (e.g., overseas exchange programs, KU-GLP, internships, etc.) are not eligible to apply.

*For KU-GLP participants, application is permitted only if they do not intend to apply for academic credit recognition for the program.

D. Those who have already been accepted into a Double, Interdisciplinary, or Student-Designed Major are ineligible to apply.

1) Students previously accepted into a Second Major (Double, Interdisciplinary, or Student-Designed Major) or applicants for Engineering Accreditation must submit a waiver/withdrawal request by May 11, 2026 (Mon) to reapply.

2) Reapplication after waiving a previously accepted Second Major (Double, Interdisciplinary, or Student-Designed Major) is limited to one time only. If your reapplication is rejected, you must complete an Intensive Major.

 

2. Application Method

A. Application Menu: Portal (KUPID) - [Registration/Graduation] - [University Registration] - [Apply for Dual Major]

1)         Select your target College/Division and Department, then write your Statement of Purpose (Study Plan).

2)         Click the [Save Draft] button - Verify your application details - Click the [Final Submit] button.

* The application is complete ONLY AFTER clicking [Final Submit] following the [Save Draft] step. If you only click [Save Draft] and fail to click the final submission button, your application will be automatically cancelled after the application period ends.

B. The Statement of Purpose (Study Plan) is required only if specified by the screening criteria of the department you are applying to.

* Statement of Purpose Prompts: Statement of Purpose & Areas of Interest or Courses & Study Plan / Other (Within 1,000 characters per item).

C. Applicants for the School of Art & Design must explicitly state their intended major (Design / Art) when writing the Statement of Purpose.

3. Selection Method

A. Evaluation is based on the criteria of each respective department, such as GPA, interview, and Statement of Purpose. (Refer to the attached file)

B. The evaluation factors in the cumulative GPA of all registered courses up to the immediately preceding semester (including 'F' grades).

4. Application Period

A. Application Period: May 13 (Wed) 10:00 –May 15 (Fri) 2026, 17:00

B. Due to potential system errors during portal submission, you must complete your application 1 to 2 hours before the deadline. Submissions after the deadline are strictly prohibited, and system errors will not be accepted as a valid excuse.

5. Announcement of Results

A. Date & Time: June 30, 2026 (Tue) 17:00 (Expected)

B. Results will be announced on the Portal (KUPID) - Bulletin Board - Notice - Academic Notice

6. Important Notes

A. Starting from the entering class of 2004, due to the mandatory Second Major policy, students must complete either an Intensive Major in their first major, or one of the Second Majors (Double, Interdisciplinary, or Student-Designed Major). (Note: Completing a Second Major is optional for transfer students with a bachelor's degree.)

B. An Intensive Major in your first major is identical to the existing single-major track.

C. Students will officially enter the Double Major starting from the semester immediately following the application semester.

D. Ineligible Departments for Application

1)         College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, Contract Departments (Department of Cyber Defense, Department of Semiconductor Engineering, Department of Communications Engineering, School of Smart Mobility)

2)         Abolished Departments (As of the 1st semester of the 2026 academic year)

3)         Double Majors between similar/extensively overlapping departments are not permitted.

4)         Departments established in 2025 (Department of Artificial Intelligence, School of Global Entertainment) are scheduled to begin student recruitment starting from the admissions process for the 1st semester of the 2027 academic year (which takes place during the 2nd semester of the 2026 academic year).

E. Some departments/divisions require the submission of a Statement of Purpose (Study Plan). Therefore, you must check the contents of the attached file, 'Guidelines for Doublw Major Admissions for the 2nd Semester of the 2026 Academic Year.' If applicable, you must write and submit a Statement of Purpose (within 1,000 characters per item).

F. Before applying, you must thoroughly review the detailed information in the Double Major Admission Guidelines (attached file).

G. Inquiries regarding the quota and required completion credits for the target Double Major department/division should be directed to the administration office of the respective college/division.
