Re-admission
: This system permits students who have been removed from the student register after enrolling and completing at least one semester to resume their studies at Korea University. Re-admission is granted upon the recommendation of the head of the department/division, provided there is a vacancy in the student quota.
A. Key Changes
Background
The academic regulations have been revised to expand re-admission opportunities, aiming to improve students' academic continuity and support flexible career planning.
a. Abolition of the limit on the number of re-admissions.
b. Retroactive abolition of the maximum period of enrollment (excluding the College of Medicine), which now allows students who were previously ineligible due to being withdrawn for an exceeded length of studentship (including those who have completed coursework) to apply for re-admission.
Details of the Revision
a. Previously, students entering in or after the 2014 academic year (including those re-admitted from the second semester of 2014 onward) were restricted to a single re-admission. As this limit has been removed, students who are removed from the student register after a previous re-admission may now apply for re-admission again.
※ Note: If competition arises due to limited vacancies within the student quota, priority will be given to applicants with no prior history of re-admission. Applicants who have been re-admitted before will be placed in secondary consideration.
b. Re-admission for Students Withdrawn Due to Exceeded Length of Studentship (Coursework Completed):
※ Note: To ensure that students who have completed coursework can graduate immediately in their registered semester upon passing the re-admission screening, they must submit proof of fulfilling graduation requirements at the time of application. However, this submission is not required if the applicant's department has retroactively abolished its graduation requirements.
Effective Date
: Effective from the re-admission process for the Fall Semester of 2026 (Implemented in the Spring Semester of 2026).
B. Application Guide
1. Eligibility: Students who have been removed from the student register based on dismissal regulations are eligible to apply. However, this application is only permitted after at least two semesters have elapsed since the date of dismissal, excluding cases where the student failed to return within the registration period after a leave of absence expired or failed to pay tuition by the deadline.
2. Application Period: Applications are open at the end of each academic semester (Early June (Spring Semester), Early December (Fall Semester)
3. Closed/Abolished Departments
a. Applications for re-admission will not be accepted for departments or divisions that have been abolished (e.g., Department of Law).
b. Applicants whose original department has been abolished must agree to the "Declaration of Major Change" included in the re-admission application documents. Once agreed, they may apply to the newly designated or reorganized department/division.
4. Screening Procedure: Document Screening and Interview
※ The above procedure applies equally to all departments, and an interview is a mandatory requirement for re-admission.
5. Application Method: Applicants must prepare the required documents listed below and submit them in person to the administration office of their respective department/division within the designated application period each semester.
